We had a fabulous vacation last week, and so much has happened that I really don’t know where to begin or what to include, so I’ll try and hit some of the highlights. I already did a separate post on my Rhinebeck experience, and I definitely want to go back again in a couple of years.
After leaving Rhinebeck, we drove through Saugerties, New York, where there was this cool old lighthouse that is actually also a bed and breakfast. The fall foliage and scenery was awesome.
We headed up to Niagara Falls and spent the night in Canada. I’d been there before several years ago, but it was the first time for Robert, Steve, and Ginger. The falls were just as impressive as before, but it was very nice to be there this time with someone I loved.
We also found a delightful treat up there – very yummy!
The next day we headed to Cooperstown and the Baseball Hall of Fame. I, of course, was mainly interested in the St. Louis Cardinals memorabilia, and there was plenty to see. I was surprised at how small the museum was compared to how I thought it would be, but we still had a great time poking around all the displays.
We left Cooperstown and headed to Bennington, VT which had some revolutionary war memorials, a beautiful old church, and several covered bridges in the area. Then we headed back to Albany, NY to spend the night. There was an interesting game of pinochle played between the four of us – one I won’t forget for a long time!
On our last day, we got up and headed south to Massachusetts, where I made the obligatory stop at Webs. It definitely lived up to the hype, and I actually bought more yarn there than I did at Rhinebeck. I still haven’t taken photos yet to update Ravelry, though.
After shopping, we headed further south to New Haven, CT where we visited Yale, and the Long Island Sound. It was really cold and blustery, but we wanted to see the ocean.
We drove through Mystic, CT, and all through Rhode Island, but it was dark and I didn’t get any more photos. We stopped in a little gas station/convenience store that had a Subway for a late dinner snack, when Steve saw someone that looked familiar to him. He started talking to the lady and realized that she was Denise from Survivor China! What a small world! We made it back to Albany, then flew to Kansas City the next day and drove home. It was tiring, but so worth all the driving to see how glorious New England and upstate New York is in the fall!

Where to Begin

Looks like you guys had a good time. One of these days I’m going to go to WEBS. Guess I’ll have to settle for online shopping for now.
