If You Can’t Beat ‘Em, Join ‘Em!

But if you can, go ahead and beat them! A few months back, I wrote a blog post about how, out of my deep love for my husband, that I had taken an interest in one of his hobbies, fantasy football. I ended up being in three leagues this season – the RBC league, which is the main league, the Chick-fil-A league because they needed an extra team, and then a Ravelry league, because I was having so much fun drafting my teams. However, the Rav league was an auto draft, which meant I didn’t have any control over which players I got on my team in the beginning – I could still drop and add free agents, or try to trade, but it ended up being a bust. But in the other two leagues, I was responsible for drafting my initial teams, monitoring stats, and making moves to try and get the most points each week. I have to say, it did end up being a lot of fun.
At first, I only wanted to win a couple of games, just so I wouldn’t look bad playing against the big boys. As I won a few, then I decided I only wanted to have a winning record – that would be a successful season. But then I started winning some crucial games, and then my goal became to just make it to the playoffs – that would be great! Then I clinched playoff berths in both leagues. Huh? How’d that happen? I still don’t know very much about football, although I’m learning a lot – thanks to Robert. But then, you guessed it – I wanted to win – at least in one league – the Super Bowl. My first year playing fantasy football and having that kind of run? How awesome would that be? I didn’t want to be greedy – I really just wanted to win the RBC league, because as it turned out, my opponent in the CFA league was none other than Robert! I’d share – we could both have trophies!
But alas, it was not to be. I won. Both leagues. The Super Bowls. Two of them. League Champion. Sorry, Babe! I still love you, though! :-)

  1. I am beginning to think that in you BDR* life you had a career as a pro quarterback. Either that or you are the luckiest person on the planet. You might want to mail in that Publisher’s Clearinghouse Sweepstakes form.
