A New Hope

All of the blogiverse, Twitter, and Plurk seem obsessed that today is a “historical” day. Blah, blah, blah. I have tried to refrain from making political comments on my blog, but I suppose I do so now to leave a record of “I told you so” for the future. I have a few predictions for the next 4 years.
1. Regardless of the many mistakes Obama is going to make (he’s not perfect – he’s not even qualified), the media and his many fans will think he can do no wrong.
2. Regardless of how much of my (and your) money Obama takes by raising taxes and redistributing wealth in the form of economic stimulus packages, the media and his many fans will not understand that he is a Socialist.
3. Regardless of any other economic changes Obama may make, people’s lives will not be better in 4 years unless they take responsibility for their own actions.
I find it extremely sad that a majority of the American people and people from all over the world are still caught up in Obama’s platform of false promises claiming “hope” and “change.” I really do pray for him, because that is a horrible responsibility he is taking on, and he will not be able to deliver on those promises. He can’t. He’s just a man.
But there is Someone who can provide hope and change – and that is God. You want a change in your life? Put your hope in the Unchanging One. That’s the only answer, for today, and every other day.
“Some trust in chariots and some in horses,
but we trust in the name of the LORD our God.”
Psalm 20:7

  1. My heart aches when I watch the nation these days. No one takes responsibility for anything, and people will do what they want regardless of who they hurt. For as long as some have fought for freedom and worked kindly to change the world for the better, one man will undo everything with a pen stroke. Scary. But I do put my trust in the Lord. He knows what he’s doing… even if we don’t!

  2. Deep thoughts for which I have no smart aleck comments. My prayers are with this country and the new administration that had been chosen to lead it.

Wife of a two time Iraq veteran and daily lurker here. I totally agree with what you said and could do 45 minutes on the topic but I’m just tired of it falling on deaf and/or hostile ears. I console myself by knowing that God is firmly in control. The only problem is that God has a history of giving people exactly the “king” they clamored for and letting them suffer the consequences. I think that is what happened here. Our country has sunk so low that this is actually what people want and deserve now. I trust that God can work good out of ALL things, this included but I’d prefer it if we didn’t make Him work this hard. ha.

  4. Very well said. Thank you for sharing.

AMEN! This is why Knitting and the Word from ep.24 really hit home with me. Jer. 29:11 is such a hope-giving verse, but knowing that the context was when the Israelites were going into captivity really brings things into perspective. I truly believe that America needs to go through the hard times that are coming, in order to bring us back to God. He has a plan!

  6. Perfectly put, Tammy. My heart grieves for the heart of this country. I have been dumbfounded this whole past year watching the move toward idiocy and the intentional blindness that surrounds me! Ugh. Anyway, neither the attitude of this world nor the president they elected can rob me of my joy in Jesus. I believe we are called to pray, and pray we must! God can take anything the devil has done and turn it around. ANYTHING!

  7. This is exactly how I’ve been feeling too. Thanks for speaking out!

  8. Thank you. I don’t necessarily agree with all you said, but I am really tired of the attitude that ANY one person can turn things aroudn teh way it seems people are expecting them to change. Really, the whole system of checks and balances was set in place so one person didn’t have too much power – which can be used for good or ill.

  9. Tammy – I agree with you 200% – we now have a socialist for a president and the majority of his supporters think they no longer need to take responsibility for their actions.
I pray Obama succeeds because it’s best for our country. But he is NOT the king! Amen!

I think you are right as well. It is a scary thing when a throng of people believes one man can do no wrong. He has effectively captivated the adoration of so many people that I fear he could get away with just about anything and Amercians would blindly stand behind him and justify his actions for him. We need to adore and be captivated by Jesus – the source of true help and peace and love.

  11. very well said! I totally agree! Thanks for sharing. :)

What a breath of fresh air your comments were, Tammy. Honestly. It is exactly how I feel, too, but you said it far more succinctly than I could have. I am in complete agreement. I’m afraid of what is going to come for all of us as a result of this administration. Like Tam said, good will prevail over evil, but that does not mean that there will not be suffering to endure while the pendulum swings the other way … grace and peace to you.

  14. Wow! I applaud your courage in writing this post. Your view, which I happen to share, is not popular today and will surely stand out.
Thank you for being bold for the Lord. This is the first time I’ve visited your blog. I plan on reading it from now on, courtesy of Google Reader. :D
