Happy Halloween!
I’m not really a fan of dressing up and extorting candy, much of which isn’t to my taste anyway, but a co-worker said something yesterday that rang true with me. “Halloween is the best day of the year to be a good neighbor.” There’s something to be said for that as I’ll be hidden safely away in my house with all the lights turned off. Maybe next year we’ll do something. But one of my favorite childhood memories is of Halloween. On the street where I grew up, we had an elderly couple, the Crosswhites, and Mrs. Crosswhite made homemade popcorn balls every Halloween. Of course, these days, I wouldn’t be comfortable accepting anything homemade from someone I didn’t really know. But we loved going to the Crosswhites’ house every year and I’m thankful I grew up in a time where that kind of trick-or-treating was possible.
But Halloween means that November is tomorrow. November as in “I have to finish my Cardigan for Arwen” by November 30 for the Tempted@3AM KAL.” November as in “I have to finish my Ishbel Shawl by November 30 for the NummaNumma KAL.” November as in Robert’s birthday is this month. November as in Christmas is next month. November as in 2009 is coming to an end and have I accomplished everything I wanted to this year?
Hmmm. Maybe it’s a good thing I woke up so early this morning. I’ve got a lot to do.
