Men in Black

I previously posted about my friend Lisa’s bridal shower which had a Breakfast at Tiffany’s theme, inspired by the thought that you can never have too many little black dresses. It only made sense that Lisa’s bachelorette party take on the direction of Men in Black.
To know Lisa is to know that she absolutely loves the Man in Black himself, Johnny Cash. And as a bachelorette party tradition in our group, we invite certain of the husbands as well as the groom to participate in the festivities. (The theme for my b-party was The Wedding Singer, and I had to choose a winner from performances such as Sonny & Cher’s “I Got You, Babe” to Barry Manilow’s “Cocacabana.”)
So we decided Lisa had to choose her favorite man in black for her wedding. Starting back with Ginger’s b-party, Steve made what may be his final appearance as “Chicken Father,” a play on the Godfather and the fact that Steve and Ginger own the local Chick-fil-A. Steve sang “Folsum Prison Blues” and then I joined him to perform Johnny’s and June’s song, “It Ain’t Me.”

Then my own personal man in black, DarthRobert, performed his favorite Johnny Cash song, “Ring of Fire,” while the scene from Star Wars where Anakin Skywalker becomes Darth Vader playing in the background. Yes, we’re all about symbolism here.
Ginger acted as the mistress of ceremonies, and DarthRobert, who made a surprise appearance as Dracula, and I also performed “Jackson.”

But of course, the b-party is all about the love, so as the grand finale, Brent, the groom, and Lisa’s own man in black, came out and serenaded her with “I Walk the Line.”

Whoever thinks that you can’t have a blast at a bachelorette party without getting drunk needs to come to one of our parties. :-) I can’t remember a time when I’ve laughed so hard and had such a great time with good friends.
