Apparently “Surviving Christmas” is the name of a movie with Ben Affleck that was on last night – I just saw commercials for it and didn’t watch.
At the first of December, I wasn’t sure I was going to survive this first Christmas without my mom, but I did, and we actually had some enjoyable moments. We made a quick trip to Oklahoma to see some extended family and drove back in a horrible rainstorm, which I kept wishing was snow. Then the forecast for Christmas Eve night was snow and blizzard like conditions, so we changed our plans and went to see my MIL that morning instead of the evening as usual. It was so nice to be getting back home at 2 in the afternoon instead of 2 a.m.
Robert and I then exchanged our gifts to each other, and we both went a little overboard, which was fun. After the past few years of cutting back to become debt free, it was nice to splurge. I bought Robert a new camera and an iPod Touch, and he got me several knitting related items, including a Spindolyn and a gift certificate to The Loopy Ewe for my upcoming trip to the 2010 Spring Fling (I’m so happy that I got in again!).
The forecast fizzled out and we ended up only getting about 2 inches of snow, but it was great to have a white Christmas, even if some of the tall grass didn’t get covered. On Christmas Day we went to my sister’s house for lunch, and then back home to watch 6 more hours of “A Christmas Story” back to back while napping.
Yesterday was a flannel pants day and I had a good time reorganizing my yarn room, setting up a dedicated place for spinning, knitting, and even doing a bit of sewing.
With just a few days left of 2009, it’s time to start looking ahead at what I want to accomplish in 2010.
