Knit Together Podcast

I was born in Springfield, Missouri and have lived here my entire life. Although I love to travel, and have a bit of wanderlust in me, I can't imagine not calling Springfield home. My travels have taken me to almost every state (one of my personal goals is to visit each state), Canada, the Bahamas, and Mexico. My dearest husband, Robert, shares this love of travel with me. It's so nice to return to places where one of us has visited and share our memories with each other and make new ones.

When I'm not traveling or planning a trip (something I tend to do to the nth degree), my hobby or obsession of choice is knitting. My best friend, Michelle, taught me to knit in 2005 when we visited her in Alaska. I've been a yarn snob ever since, and am completely hooked. Robert is wonderfully supportive and never complains when we're on a trip and I pull out Google maps of local yarn stores in the area.

Although traveling and knitting are important facets of my life, they are not the most important aspects. First and foremost I am a Christian, a born-again, bible-believing child of the one true God. Living for Jesus is what defines who I am, and I am truly grateful for His blessings. I am blessed beyond measure to be Robert's wife, and I have a wonderful family and many close friendships.

I'm a bit of a geek when it comes to electronics and photography, a perpetual student, and an advocate of debt-free living. I'm extremely introverted (although my friends don't always believe this), and through this blog I'm hoping to let others get a glimpse into my life.

Knitting has such a rich history, and I thought it would be interesting to search out references to knitting or fibers in the Bible. These are by all means not exhaustive, but they are some of my favorites. A search on Bible Gateway made it fairly simple to search multiple translations and paraphrases - please note that your favorite translation may not use the word knit as it is used in other translations. In any event, I believe the fact that we are knitters may give us some additional insight into these words from the Lord. Blessings!

Psalm 139:13-14 (NIV)

13 For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother's womb.
14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.

Job 10:8-11 (NIV)

8 "Your hands shaped me and made me.
Will you now turn and destroy me?
9 Remember that you molded me like clay.
Will you now turn me to dust again?
10 Did you not pour me out like milk

Romans 14:10-12 (MSG)

10-12 So where does that leave you when you criticize a brother? And where does that leave you when you condescend to a sister? I'd say it leaves you looking pretty silly or worse. Eventually, we're all going to end up kneeling side by side in the place of judgment, facing God. Your critical and condescending ways aren't going to improve your position there one bit. Read it for yourself in Scripture: "As I live and breathe," God says,
"every knee will bow before me;
Every tongue will tell the honest truth
that I and only I am God."
So tend to your knitting. You've got your hands full just taking care of your own life before God.

I've never been a fan of paraphrases of the Bible, but I have to say, I love The Message's take on the following!
